The aim of the Minority Ombudsman's visit to Slovakia is to study the legal environment in Slovakia concerning minority law and its implementation, in particular the status of Hungarian and Roma nationalities.
On the first day of her visit, she had a meeting with the mayor of Tornalja, Anna Szögedi and the director of the local cultural center, Gábor Puskó, who is an outstanding cultural anthropologist in Slovakia. They discussed the opportunities and challenges of minority rights enforcement by the local Hungarian community.
Elisabeth Sándor-Szalay then visited the Kazinczy Ferenc Basic School of Hungarian Teaching Language, where she met with senior school staff, discussing Roma integration strategies and the Kedves Ház (Kind House) Project. The students performed a program to greet the Minority Ombudsman.
In the afternoon she placed a wreath of remembrance at the family crypt of Imre Madách. In the evening she offered a dinner to senior personalities of Hungarian nationality higher education in Slovakia.
