On 16 March 2022, Commissioner for Fundamental Rights Dr. Ákos Kozma held an online discussion with Australia’s Victorian Ombudsman Ms. Deborah Glass on the issue of the situation of refugees arriving in Hungary, fleeing the war in Ukraine.
Since the outbreak of the war in Ukraine, nearly 264,000 refugees have arrived in Hungary. During the meeting, the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights gave information about the current situation at the Hungarian–Ukrainian border section, the circumstances of the reception of refugees arriving in Hungary from Ukraine, and the measures taken to help them.
Furthermore, Dr. Ákos Kozma informed Victorian Ombudsman Ms. Deborah Glass about the operation of the temporary regional office set up by the Office of the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights at the Záhony railway station and the experience gained so far.
