Dr. Ákos Kozma, the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary, attended and delivered a presentation at the conference titled “The Effectiveness of Ombudsman Institutions and NHRIs? Tackling Contemporary Challenges" in Bled, Slovenia. He participated at the invitation of Peter Svetina, the Slovenian Ombudsman.


 

In his keynote presentation, the Commissioner for Fundamental Rights of Hungary highlighted the expanding tasks and competencies of his mandate and discussed the activities aimed at protecting the rights of the most vulnerable social groups.

Following his presentation, Dr. Ákos Kozma joined a panel discussion with Tena Šimonović Einwalter, the Ombudswoman of Croatia; Maria Stylianou-Lottides, Commissioner for Administration and the Protection of Human Rights of the Republic of Cyprus; Judge Emeritus Dr. Joseph Zammit McKeon, Parliamentary Ombudsman of the Republic of Malta; and Dr. Dijana Možina Zupanc, the Deputy Ombudsman of the Republic of Slovenia. The discussion focused on the best practices of ombudsman institutions, with a particular emphasis on solutions improving the accessibility of ombudsman services.

During the panel, Dr. Kozma stressed the importance of an active, proactive approach to ombudsman practices and the significance of personal presence in their work.
